As a new Washtenaw County resident, James Pye is committed to seeing action in the community through philanthropy. While studying marketing at Western Michigan University, James participated in numerous student organizations and organized volunteering and fundraising events. After graduating he worked at PNC Bank where he learned to communicate effectively and make sure the customer is beyond satisfied. He then was hired as the Marketing & Volunteer Coordinator at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo. There he experienced employees and volunteers being everyday heroes to youth by providing opportunities and experiences they may not have access to otherwise because of their zip code. James saw the impact employees and volunteers were having on the youth and believed he can help as well. In fact, James believes there are so many great people in the world who want to provide opportunities for those struggling in their respective communities by providing resources needed to make an effective impact. He decided that philanthropy combined with his marketing skills was his way to make a difference. James returned to his alma mater and received a master’s of public administration with an emphasis in nonprofit leadership to inform his career in philanthropy. In May 2020, James was hired in the newly formed AAACF Philanthropy Associate position. He moved from Kalamazoo to start his new chapter and begin working in Washtenaw County, where he intends to serve his new community well.
