Ypsilanti Area Community Fund

Established in 2001, the Ypsilanti Area Community Fund (YACF) is dedicated to building a permanent endowment to enrich the quality of life in the Ypsilanti area.

  • We award grants to support local organizations and programs that serve Ypsilanti residents.
YACF awards more than $30,000 in competitive grants each year - and has awarded more than $1.4 million to support local community projects and programs.
  • We connect donors to local causes.
More than $2.5 million in gifts, large and small, from people who care about Ypsilanti have helped support local community projects and build a permanent endowment that will continue to grow.
  • We bring community leaders together.
YACF's Advisory Committee includes community leaders who work together to award grants that meet the changing needs of Ypsilanti's community.
  • We build endowment that will be available to invest in Ypsilanti's future.
As an affiliate of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, YACF benefits from AAACF's professional program staff, philanthropic, and investment expertise. AAACF's long-term investment strategy ensures YACF's endowment will continue to grow and be available to invest in our community's future.

In November 2017, YACF hosted the Ypsilanti premiere screening of Where The Brave Dare to Tread: The Bob Arvin Story, a film by Brian Kruger. 50 years ago, local hero “Bob” Arvin was killed in action during the Vietnam War. This documentary captures his powerful story and shares it with a new generation. The Capt. C. Robert Arvin Scholarship Fund at YACF also carries on his legacy.

Other recent news includes an announcement that the Mary Williams Gillenwater Scholarship will now be administered as part of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (AAACF) Community Scholarship Program so that YCS students can receive the Community Scholarship Program’s multi-year awards and a dedicated “college success coach.” Bank of Ann Arbor is managing the assets of the Gillenwater Trust and partnering with the Community Foundation to administer the funds.

Greg Peoples, a lifelong educator and Ypsilanti Area Community Fund (YACF) Co-Chair, announced that in addition to the management of the Gillenwater Trust through Bank of Ann Arbor, the Gillenwater legacy will also live on because an anonymous donor has created the “YACF Gillenwater Legacy Fund” and seeded it with $10,000. In addition, the donor will match, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000 in new gifts to the fund. More details are available online.
