Youth Council 2016 Grants

In 2016, Youth Council awarded $77,311.78 in grants to support the following youth programs and projects:

  • 5th Corner- $3,500
    To create an opportunity for 5th-8th grade girls to develop in computer coding and lean their own voices.
  • Ann Arbor Academy- $9,961.78
    To develop an internship program for learning disabled students.
  • Ann Arbor YMCA- $3,000
    To expand the Youth Volunteer Corps mission to include awareness of diverse communities through service projects. 
  • Ann Arbor Skatepark- $2,000
    To encourage girls to learn how to skateboard and feel welcome at the park. 
  • Community Action Network- $6,500
    To provide 30 low income Ypsilanti students with an academic and STEM enriched summer experience. 
  • Community Action Network- $5,000
    To support "How Does It Work," a program to eliminate the STEM gap for students from low-income families.  
  • Dexter Community Orchestra- $500
    To cover expenses for the Instrument Petting Zoo. 
  • Eastern Michigan University- $5,000
    To support mentoring activities for EMU mentors and Ypsilanti Community Schools youth. 
  • Ele's Place- $5,000
    To help underwrite the grief programs in two Ann Arbor schools. 
  • Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan- $5,000
    To support a program focused on building self-esteem and college readiness for girls in juvenile detention. 
  • Growing Hope- $5,300
    To develop and install a teen-led African-American history mural for the Ypsilanti Farmers MarketSpace. 
  • LightUp Shine Now- $10,250
    To teach children with disabilities how to ride a two wheeled bicycle independently. 
  • Phoenix Ensemble- $3,000
    To support the PhoenixPhest Grande Jazz program. 
  • Ypsilanti District Library- $3,000
    To support on going efforts to make the library a Youth Driven Space. 
  • Washtenaw Futures Community Access Network- $10,300
    To allow Peer Forward to train students to lead peer-to-peer campaigns to build a college going culture.
