Fund Options
The Community Foundation offers a variety of different fund types to help your clients achieve their charitable goals. Donors can often realize a number of different charitable goals with one meaningful gift - by establishing a number of different funds and/or contributing to existing AAACF Named Funds.
Establishing endowed funds at the Community Foundation ensures your client's gift will continue to grow and give forward for future generations - For good. For ever.
- Unrestricted Funds support AAACF's competitive grant programs, and give AAACF the greatest capacity and flexibility to address emerging community needs and priorities. Donors who want to leverage AAACF's knowledge of our community's needs often support our competitive grant programs with a gift. A named unrestricted fund can be established with a gift of $5,000 or more.
- Field of Interest Funds support organizations and programs in broad areas of interest - the arts, environment, seniors, education, youth, and health and human services. Donors who are interested in supporting a particular area of interest can establish a new field of interest fund with a minimum gift of $25,000.
- Designated Funds (and Agency Endowments) help local nonprofits and community organizations fulfill their missions in perpetuity. Donors have established designated funds to support a favorite charitable organization or a local school. Donors can establish a new designated fund with a minimum gift of $10,000.
- Donor Advised Funds offer an attractive alternative to private foundations or a charitable gift fund. A donor advised fund provides greater tax advantages, eliminates any administrative responsibility, and takes advantage of AAACF's lower administrative costs. While leveraging AAACF's in-depth knowledge of our local community needs, donors make specific grant recommendations to support the causes they care about - which can include nonprofit organizations outside our geographic area. Donors can establish a donor advised fund with a minimum gift of $20,000.
- Scholarship Funds are designed to provide annual scholarships to help local students cover the cost of continuiing education. Donors can create and name their own scholarship fund with a minimum gift of $20,000. Donors may also designate a scholarship advisory committee, and set guidelines for candidate selection and scholarship awards.
- Administrative Endowment Funds help AAACF cover the costs of its day-to-day operations. Named funds can be established with a minimum gift of $10,000.
Things to consider when helping your client establish an endowed fund at the Community Foundation:
- We can establish a new fund in any name your client chooses - to honor an individual, family, business, organization, or a loved one.
- Tax benefits are realized in the year the gift is made.
- Depending upon the type of fund established, your clients have the opportunity to stay involved in grant decisions.
- AAACF's Board of Trustees distributes grants in the name of the fund. When requested, grants can be made anonymously.
- The Community Foundation handles all the administrative details.
- Your client's endowed gift will be invested over time - to grow in perpetuity. Earnings are used to make grants to honor your client's charitable intentions - For good. For ever.
AAACF's administrative fees can range from 1/4% - 2%, and will vary depending upon the type of Fund established and the Fund's balance. For more information on AAACF's administrative fee schedule, please contact AAACF CFO Doug Weber.
