Scholarships Galvanize More Than Students!

The scholarship application portal is open on our website, and it's certainly been active! Since the Community Scholarship Program was announced with fanfare last spring, AAACF is pleased that even more people are finding out about our scholarship opportunitiesstudents, parents, and donors alike! Having the community truly embrace a scholarship program for the community is exactly why the donor issued the $250,000 challenge grant for the Level the Playing Field Fund anonymouslyso that it would become a true community endeavor.

The Level the Playing Field Fund (LPFF) is a significant fund within AAACF’s Community Scholarship Program, which supports students from one or more of the following populations in Washtenaw County: (1) students from economically disadvantaged families; (2) students of color; and/or (3) first-generation college students, meaning neither parent holds a 4-year degree. The Level the Playing Field Fund requires that the students have financial need and gives preference to students from the local public school systems.

Keitra Osler CSP student quoteIn addition to a broad base of support, the Community Scholarship Program is special because it provides recipients with a "Success Coach" and multi-year awards to help ensure their academic persistence. The program's ultimate goal is to increase college degree attainmentfrom both two-year and four-year institutionsof Washtenaw County students.

The LPFF dollar-for-dollar challenge match has been widely embraced by donors at all levels. To date, seven new named funds have been established within the scholarship program! We look forward to sharing stories of these donors with the communityand especially to inspire student recipientsin the months and years to come.
