YACF Community Gatherings

The Ypsilanti Area Community Fund (YACF) welcomed a packed room at the Eagle Crest Clubhouse on November 19th to hear an update and exciting plans for continuing the “community voice” work begun this year. YACF is working toward their Impact Statement:

Every family in the Ypsilanti area will thrive by gaining access to programs and services through collaborative partnerships across sectors that measurably increase health outcomes and educational attainment leading to economic well-being.

A community voice project ensures that families are able to share what “thriving” means to them and contribute to discussions and decisions that affect their lives. As the only permanent endowment for the Ypsilanti area, YACF has a unique position to connect the learnings across past and current dialogues about the community and to highlight opportunities and collaborations.

EMU Graduate Student Catherine Coffey, who was contracted to assist with the community voice efforts, shared more background and posters with feedback that already emerged from residents were placed throughout the room. Attendees at the event were also asked to share their own ideas on what it would mean to realize the YACF vision.

Co-chair Eric Geiser recognized his co-chair Lynette Findley, PhD, who along with former co-chair Vicki Reaume, finish their second three-year terms on the YACF Advisory Committee this month. Look for more news about YACF efforts and leadership early in 2020. As AAACF CEO Neel Hajra told the crowd, we look forward to even stronger partnerships and collaborations in the Ypsilanti area going forward.

In August 2019, YACF also hosted a happy hour at Cultivate Coffee & Taphouse to update and engage community members and supporters in our work.
